About Our Vineyard
Nestled in the rolling hills of central Missouri lies the town of Westphalia, the “Pearl of Osage County.” Settled in the 1830’s, the forested hillsides reminded the German immigrants of their native province of Westfalen in the River Valley. The tranquil Maries River ribbons through the Westphalia area past limestone bluffs, lush farmland, and picturesque vineyards.
Westphalia Vineyards uses time-honored, natural processes to create handcrafted wines. Although all wines contain some naturally occurring sulfites, we do not add any additional sulfites to our products and age our wines using only Missouri oak barrels, creating fresh and vigorous wines.
We founded Westphalia Vineyards with the goal of making great wines and bringing people together. The Neuner family wishes you cheers and hopes you enjoy our wines.
The Art of Wine Making
Terry Neuner earned a Master’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Missouri-Columbia and worked for several years as a research chemist for the Missouri Farmer’s Association. Not coincidentally Terry’s expertise at MFA was in fermentation, where he was a pioneer in ethanol uses for fuel. His next career move was to 3M Corporation in business development, which took his family abroad for over ten years, living in both Europe and Asia. He has since retired but is keeping busy raising Missouri’s only Kobe beef herd, and now expanding to winemaking on his Osage County farm. Terry brings his full science background, agricultural skills, and fermentation knowledge to fruition in Westphalia Vineyards wines.
